The King's Speech

Certificate: 15
Running Time: 118 minutes
Director: Tom Hooper

Academy Award winner Colin Firth stars alongside the wonderful Helena Bonham Carter and the brilliant Geoffrey Rush in this regal movie about the tribulations of King George VI and his stutter. Based on true events, the tale depicts the King’s relationship with his family, wife (Bonham Carter), and speech therapist (Rush) as he comes to terms with his childhood, the pressures of royalty, and the duties of a King that he thought he’d never have. Easily the best film of 2010/11. Deserved all the awards that it got. Amazing acting, costume, music, screenplay and more. Highly recommended.

Rating: *****

BAFTA Results 2011 :-)

Sunday night was truly a night to remember. Apart from being one of the only times I haven’t found Jonathan Ross irritating, there was plenty of acting talent and some well deserved awards. Leading up to the Oscars build up, will the BAFTA’s be an outline for the winner’s of the Academy Awards?!

The King’s Speech pretty much wiped the floor with all the other films. With a total of 7 wins, including Colin Firth for Best Leading Actor (well done, Colin!), The King’s Speech is set to win big at the Oscars. The main challengers appear to be The Social Network, Inception and Alice in Wonderland, although for all us film buffs, we could have guessed that anyway. Congratulations to all the winners, and condolences to the runner’s up.

Happy New Year :-)

I hope you all had an amazing christmas and are looking forward to 2011.
The start of a new year means one thing only in the world of film - awards ceremonies. The Golden Globes come up on the 16th January, the BAFTA awards on 13th February and the Oscars on 27th February, filling up the first quarter of our year with acting talent. I’m going to be writing lots about the awards ceremonies over the coming months, so I hope you’re ready!!
2011 also sees plenty of mouth-watering new film releases, such as Rabbit Hole, Love and Other Drugs and Tangled. I will be reviewing as many new releases as humanly possible, to spare you from films that suck and urge you to see films that are out of this world. If you’re into movies, this is the blog for you. Without further ado, here are the top 10 films I can’t wait to watch in 2011;
  1. The King’s Speech
  2. Chalet Girl
  3. Captain America: The First Avenger
  4. Biutiful
  5. Black Swan
  6. Rango
  7. True Grit
  8. 127 Hours
  9. Thor
  10. Restless
As excited as you all are about rushing down to the cinema (‘Orange Wednesdays’ I hear you cry!) enjoy the new year celebrations before you get re-glued to a cinema screen. Have a fun start to 2011, let’s make this year an incredible one.
:-) thanks for reading :-)
